Atlanta recently passed Washington D.C. and Philadelphia to become the nation’s sixth-largest metropolitan region according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2023 Atlanta’s 29-county region grew by 1%, reaching 6.3 million and welcoming nearly 69,000 new residents.

While metro Atlanta is known as the nucleus for the Southeast’s workforce, it continues to be a place for booming hometown counties. This year, Dawson County was among one of the nation’s 10th fastest-growing counties. Dawson is one of the many hometown counties in the region where people can thrive.

These new census figures continue to be a trend for metro Atlanta. Just last year, the region’s population surpassed the Miami metro area in Florida. The region now competes with Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metros for total residents.

With an abundance of talent, economic development, and quality of life, metro Atlanta continues to be at the forefront for commerce and community. The region offers a sense of belonging — top-notch job opportunities, multiple unique neighborhoods, vibrant culture, and easy access to nature. It’s the dream place for careers and lives. And as the population numbers grow it’s evident the region continues to be at the top of lists for places to live.
