The Perry native was first elected to Georgia District 20 in 2002 and last month announced his retirement effective November 1.  To mark the occasion, members of MAC's policy team joined with other business groups to host an "appreciation luncheon" in Macon.  Sen. Tolleson is a well know figure within the environment community at both the state and federal levels for his work on an array of legislative initiatives.  He also served on the prominent Rules, Appropriations and Transportation committees in the Georgia General Assembly.

In announcing his retirement, Sen. Tolleson revealed he has been diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's.  In a media interview at the time, he said:

"Serving the place your family has called home for generations is an incredible experience and there wasn’t a day I didn’t give thanks for the opportunity to strengthen our state and change lives for the better. This diagnosis was a disappointment, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge and will meet it head on.”

Senator Tolleson is married to Sally Funk Tolleson of Perry. They have three children: a son, Trip, and twin daughters, Ansley and Kelly.
