Getting to Know Nikko

mac_headshot_2022.jpg

Originally from Brunswick, Georgia, Nikko Cayetano, a two-time University of Georgia graduate, recently joined MAC’s public policy team as Coordinator, Research & Analytics after a productive time as an intern. Passionate about public policy and service, Nikko brings policy and legislative acumen from experiences in local and state government including Athens-Clarke County and the Georgia General Assembly. In his new role, Nikko was excited to share more about himself as we get to know Nikko!

Congratulations, Nikko! What are you most looking forward to in your new role and what do you see as a defining moment for the work you will do with research and analytics?

I hope that my education and experience in public policy will help strengthen MAC’s important policy work and shore up our position as leaders in policy research and data. This role is critical to our efforts of influencing business climate, transportation, infrastructure, energy/environment, education and talent. As the team’s Public Policy Research and Analytics Coordinator, I look forward to building a system where policy is data-first, research-based and accessible for different audiences, not just those with policy expertise.

What attracted you to Metro Atlanta Chamber?

I knew MAC was the place for me during my internship with the team. The support, team effort and welcoming environment made me sure of my choice! Each day I’m beyond happy my work helps the chamber advocate for metro Atlanta and the growth of jobs, business expansion and new market opportunities.

What are you passionate about?

During my time at the University of Georgia, I figured out quickly that I have a specific interest in environmental and climate justice, urban design and social equity work. My passion for policy coupled with my defined interest creates the perfect scenario that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time catching up on recipes from one of my favorite cookbooks – Mi Cocina by Rick Martínez, playing tennis (trying to, at least) and admiring astrophotography.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere” by Carl Sagan. I specifically like this quote because Carl Sagan is one of my favorite authors. His astute outlook on our world is inspiring. Additionally, this quote speaks to me because looking forward to new ideas is how we will solve current problems.

A fun fact about you?

I am a first-generation college graduate!
