2021 Q4 Workforce Snapshot

2022-1-14_graph_2.jpg

As 2022 begins, we can look at job posting data from the fourth quarter of 2021. Q4 of 2021 saw 6.9% more job postings than Q3 of 2021 and 29% more job postings than Q4 of 2020. Nationally, job postings only saw a 4.8% increase between Q3 and Q4 of 2021.

The top occupations list saw some shifting from 2020, primarily with a large increase in demand for software developers/engineers and a moderate decrease in demand for registered nurses. In 2020, physician was the ninth most in demand occupation and was replaced by Office/Administrative Assistant in 2021.

Nationally, registered nurse is still the most in demand occupation, followed by retail sales associate and software developers/engineers.

As demand for registered nurses has remained high, education requirements have changed. In 2019, 55% of RN postings required an associate degree and 41% required a bachelors. In 2021, only 35% of employers are requiring a bachelors and more are allowing for just the associate level degree showing a possible down-credentialing due to demand.

Traveler accommodation and restaurant industries saw the largest increase in job postings while hospitals saw the largest decrease in job postings.

The job posting numbers look promising as economic recovery continues.
