ATLANTA – Sept. 23, 2022 – Yesterday, the Metro Atlanta Chamber presented its Heroes of Global Health Awards at the sixth annual Bill Foege Global Health Awards ceremony to Jonathan Lewin, MD, FACR, former executive vice president for health affairs at Emory University and former CEO and chairman of Emory Healthcare; and David Ross, ScD, president and CEO of the Task Force for Global Health.

“The recipients of this award, Dr. Jonathan Lewin and Dr. David Ross, truly embody the spirit of this award,” said David Hartnett, chief economic development officer for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “Their dedication and level of service have made them leaders in Atlanta, in Georgia and the world. Dr. Ross and Dr. Lewin are extraordinary individuals who have devoted their careers to addressing healthcare access and healthcare equity. It is my very great pleasure to recognize them on behalf of the Metro Atlanta Chamber and to celebrate their exceptional achievements.”

The Bill Foege Global Health Awards pay tribute to Task Force for Global Health co-founder Bill Foege, MD, MPH, a global hero best known for eradicating smallpox. The award, presented at the annual gathering of Atlanta’s business and health community leaders, honors individuals and organizations for their commitment to making advancements in global health. This year’s Bill Foege Global Health Awards recipients are Helene Gayla, MD, MPH, president of Spelman College, James Curran, MD, MPH, dean of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and the Alliance for Paired Kidney Donation, were chosen for their humanitarian achievements in combating diseases and health equality worldwide.
