Metro Atlanta Chamber Hosts Panel on Student Work-Based Learning, School Turnaround Chief

On December 8th, MAC was pleased to host the new School Turnaround Chief for the Georgia Department of Education as well as a panel of experts focusing on student work-based learning oppotunities.


Dr. Eric Thomas is the new Turnaround Chief for Georgia's Public Schools. Hired in November, Dr. Thomas explained his philosophy of student-support and community work that will guide his impact on the state's lower performing schools. 

After Dr. Thomas, the Educated Workforce Council heard from a panel of experts on student work-based learning opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, summer work, and more. The panel included:

Terri Bonoff – Director of Education &Workforce Partnerships at the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics & Computing (CEISMC)

Lauren Baksh – Talent Pipeline Manager at Graphic Packaging Inc

Chuck Little – HR Director for the Atlanta Electrical Contractors Association

Walt Carter – CIO & CMO for Primary Capital Mortgage, LLC

Jenny Houlroyd – Industrial Hygienist in the Electronic Systems Laboratory & Human Systems Integration Division at the Georgia Tech Research Institute

The panel took questions from the audience regarding student experiences, workplace culture and adjustments as well as liability.
