MAC’s policy team today hosted an informal meet and greet with Georgia’s new director of the Environmental Protection Division, Richard Dunn. Governor Nathan Deal named Dunn to the post in June when he also announced Lauren Curry as the new EPD deputy director. Both Dunn and Curry join the agency from other state agencies. Dunn previously served as deputy director in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget. Curry is former chief of staff at the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
The state’s EPD, housed within the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), oversees environmental regulation and enforces pollution permits for air, water and land resources. Given the prominence of water issues in Georgia, the agency has taken on added responsibilities.
Dunn replaced outgoing EPD director Judson Turner, who led the agency for four years.
