Awards honor metro Atlanta business leaders advancing regional economy and environment
Today the Metro Atlanta Chamber announced the winners of the 2019 Atlanta E3 Awards during a breakfast event at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.
The Atlanta E3 Awards recognize the companies, organizations and individuals making outstanding achievement in advancing clean tech and offering best-in-class sustainability practices in the marketplace.
The finalists and five winners were chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants. The entries were carefully vetted and judged by an independent selection committee.
“The Atlanta E3 Awards are about bringing the environment and economy together for everyone. Every award given out today represents groundbreaking work in sustainability – all emerging from metro Atlanta,” said Metro Atlanta Chamber Chief Policy Officer Katie Kirkpatrick.
2019 Atlanta E3 Awards Winners:
Built Environment:
For achievement in efficient building design, smart growth or urban planning.
Interface Headquarters – Interface and Perkins + Will
For their new headquarters in Midtown, Interface and architects Perkins + Will converted an existing building into an iconic spot for sustainability. New, high-performance HVAC and lighting systems were used in the design of the retrofit to reduce total energy use. One of the most striking features of the building is the 307 glass panels wrapped in a recyclable polyester sheath depicting a forest, which reduces glare and the building’s heat load. The project is targeting LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications.
Clean Tech Innovation:
Celebrating companies or projects that are creating sustainable solutions in any clean tech sector (renewable energy, recycling, materials).
Goodr
Goodr is an Atlanta-based technology company that connects surplus food from businesses to those who are food insecure. They provide a logistics and supply chain solution to diverting edible food from landfills; and they have diverted over one million pounds of food from landfills in Atlanta alone. Their technology and process allow for businesses and restaurants to donate their unused food without fear of liability while also keeping secure records for analyzing social impact.
Impact Award:
Recognizing visionary individuals advancing sustainability in Atlanta.
Brad Currey, Retired Chairman and CEO, RockTenn

After a long career at Trust Company Bank and RockTenn, he became the driving force behind the creation of the Apalachicola Chattahoochee Flint Stakeholders, with the mission to change the operation and management of the ACF basin to achieve equitable and viable solutions among stakeholders and that the ACF basin remains a sustainable resource for current and future generations.
Moving the Needle:
Recognizing companies or projects that are innovating in the transportation, mass transit and logistics sectors.
Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines was the first U.S. airline to recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles and cups, as well as newspapers and magazines from aircraft. In the last 10 years, they have recycled more than three million pounds of aluminum. In 2018, Delta executed the largest single company textile diversion program in U.S. history. Employee engagement around sustainability has become a priority, including the creation of their Green Up group for sustainability ambassadors and hosting honey bee hives at their headquarters. Delta is committed to and has achieved carbon-neutral growth through carbon offsetting and fuel saving initiatives for six consecutive years.
Resilient Communities:
Awarding nonprofit, university or public-private partnership programs promoting collaboration, community involvement or education toward making metro Atlanta more sustainable.
