Janice Rys

Chief Development Officer

Janice Rys serves the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) as chief development officer. In this capacity, she is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all revenue generation for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. This includes growing the investor base; cultivating relationships with investors, Board of Directors, and prospective investors; providing strategic leadership and planning for future development needs.  MAC represents the 29-county region with a $15 million annual budget.

She is acknowledged for her leadership capabilities, strategic visioning and negotiating strengths as well as her ability to build partnerships with individuals at all levels in corporate organizations. Her sales skills combined with her intuitiveness, responsiveness and talent for executing on strategies has benefited the organization by providing ever increasing results for Chamber leadership and over 20 plus Chamber Chairs.

She has traveled the world, including Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, Georgia, and Romania serving as a Board Member for the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). She has been active in the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Association (ACCE) and serves on the Board of Trustees for Leadership Atlanta and the Grady Hospital Ambassador Force.

Prior to coming to MAC, Rys served as Territory Manager for Kellogg’s. She attended the University of Florida and has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Rys served on the Boards of Clayton State University College of Business Advisory Board, and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE).  

Kari Hackett

Kari Hackett is the vice president of Investor Relations & Development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC). A 15-year MAC employee, Kari is responsible for overseeing MAC’s corporate investment strategy, implementation and client relations team.

Kari is also the instrumental piece to MAC's successful major investor programs, including Insights on Leadership speakers program, CEO dinners and strategic growth of MAC’s board of directors. Over the last 15 years she has built strong relationships and secured visionary leaders, including Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, Virgin Group; Jeff Immelt, chairman and CEO, GE; Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft; and Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO, JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Kari holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Florida State University. She is also a graduate of the 2009 Pathbuilders Achieva Class and 2015 Leadership Cobb class. She currently co-chairs a number of programs for the 2016-2017 Leadership Cobb class. An avid tennis player and college football enthusiast, Kari enjoys spending time with her family, especially her 4 year-old son, Will.

Jack Murphy

Jack Murphy joined the Investor Relations team of the Metro Atlanta Chamber in 2003. His current role is helping new investors determine the best membership fit for their companies. He has over 30 years of experience, working in higher education, operations, sales, human resources, organizational development, and change management roles, for McGraw-Hill and SunTrust Bank. He also spent time as an entrepreneur, consulting with Delta Air Lines, Charter Communications, and others.

He serves on both the National and Georgia Boards of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, responsible for Diversity, Advocacy, & Systemic Change. He chairs the North Fulton Poverty Task Force.

Jack received a BA in psychology from Belmont Abbey College and a MEd. from the UNC-Greensboro.  Jack and his wife Nancy, a retired elementary school principal, have two grown daughters, two grandchildren.  They live in Alpharetta, GA.


Joel Perkins

Joel originally joined the team in 2007 as an intern and now serves as Director of Investor Relations for the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC). In this role, Joel is focused on growing new investment revenue to the Chamber, while supporting our current investor level members.  

After a successful career in real estate and time spent working in membership for a chamber in Virginia and the Georgia Chamber, Joel is thrilled to be back in the city he loves. He currently sits on the board of directors for the Frazer Center.

Joel's original roots are in central Illinois and is a graduate of Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. Joel currently lives in downtown Decatur with his dog Samson and is big fan of global travel, time with his friends and family, running on the BeltLine with his dog and all things ATL.


Makena Brown

In May 2017, Makena joined the team as an intern and now serves as Project Coordinator for Investor Relations. In her current role, she organizes and executes the monthly Board meetings and events. She also coordinates and executes all events and activities for our Young Professionals Council, ATLeaders. In addition to events, Makena manages the invoicing process for the entire Metro Atlanta Chamber membership. 

Georgia native and Georgia Southern University alumni, Makena loves indulging in all things ATL and is excited to start her professional career in the city.
