Third grade literacy proficiency, which Georgia Department of Education identifies as a key measure, saw single-digit gains across most categories. Metro Atlanta school districts, specifically those in the Learn4Life effort, have been laser-focused on what's working in early literacy including vision screenings, teacher professional development, and family literacy as part of health, among others. Learn4Life, which includes eight metro-area school districts, has substantial networks established for both early literacy (third grade reading) and post-secondary enrollment & completion.
This year, Learn4Life has also established a large network for eighth grade math with a heavy focus on STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics). Follow their progress here and here.

About Georgia Milestones
Students began taking Georgia Milestones assessments in 2014-15. The testing system is one comprehensive program across grades 3-12, which includes open-ended and technology-enhanced questions to better gauge students’ content mastery. The assessment was administered 100% online for the first time in the 2018-19 school year (with the exception of students who require a paper/pencil test as an accommodation).
