Today Georgia Power filed their recommendation to continue the construction of Plant Vogtle’s 3rd and 4th reactors with the Georgia Public Service Commission. The recommendation is supported by the co-owners, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities.

“The two new units at Plant Vogtle will be in service for 60 to 80 years and will add another low-cost, carbon-free energy source to our already diverse fuel mix,” said Paul Bowers, Georgia Power chairman, president and CEO.

Governor Nathan Deal praised this announcement in a statement here.

Georgia Power also announced that it entered into a contract with Bechtel, the engineering, construction and project management firm, to supervise construction. Westinghouse will also be onsite to provide engineering, procurement and licensing support.

The construction will continue to drive thousands of jobs and create approximately 800 permanent jobs once the reactors are operational.
