Assurant’s move contributes to the state of Georgia’s impressive count of 19 companies featured on Fortune’s 2023 list of the 500 largest American companies by revenue, released earlier this summer.

Metro Atlanta has emerged as a prime destination for major corporations to establish their headquarters, with all but two of Georgia’s 19 Fortune 500s based in the region. Longtime metro Atlanta stalwarts like Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Company, The Home Depot, and UPS join Columbus-based Aflac and Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries on the state’s list. Katie Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, emphasized the region’s business-friendly climate, strategic location, and abundance of talent as key factors behind this growth. “Metro Atlanta is a natural place for companies at any stage to grow. We were built for business from the beginning,” she said.

The addition of Assurant elevates Georgia’s ranking to the ninth state with the most Fortune 500 companies, solidifying Georgia’s presence on the Fortune 500 list. A spokesperson for Assurant reaffirmed that the company is committed to the Atlanta area, recognizing it as a crucial hub for talent and business operations.

Between the addition of Assurant, regular changes to the Fortune 500 list, quickly rising stars in the entrepreneurial world, and forward momentum from a rapidly growing workforce, Georgia’s corporate landscape continues to evolve. These developments reflect the dynamic business environment and growth opportunities that make metro Atlanta a go-to destination for companies at various stages of development.
