Big Changes in Store for Workforce Development, Career & Technical Education

January 16, 2018

In his final State of the State address, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal outlined some big changes for Georgia's Education & Workforce efforts.

Highlighting advancements in Cyber Security and economic development, in addition to talking Amazon HQ2, Governor Deal announced a major Workforce Development move.

Georgia's Division of Workforce Development will be moving to the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), as will the state's recruitment office. As our state maked moves to consolidate workforce efforts, there is speculation among education and workforce advocates that the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education division at the Georgia Department of Education may be moving into this consolitated effort as well.

One advantage to this aligment might be the reconciling of multiple Career Pathway, Career Cluster and High Demand Career Initiatives, which can be confusing to outside economic development partners. However, blending and consolidation of multiple departments will need to be handled carefully to not disrupt current education, teacher training and economic recruitment & development efforts.

We look forward to continuing to help make Georgia the best place to do business and to provide our students and workforce with the best possible system for education and training.
