Atlanta’s burgeoning technology sector has put the San Francisco Bay Area on notice. Georgia’s welcoming business environment, low cost of living, family friendly atmosphere and mild climate are attracting technology companies away from Silicon Valley and to the metro region.
San Francisco Business Times reporter Mark Calvey recently caught up with Atlanta technology attorney John Yates to listen to his pitch for attracting startups to Atlanta. Yates, a MAC Technology Leadership Council member, works closely with Bay Area venture capital firms who are quickly learning that Silicon Valley may be the place to start a company, but Atlanta is the city to grow it.
Atlanta’s reputation as a pro-business city that supports diversity is an important component for attracting the best technology talent. Competing southern states like Texas and Alabama have earned reputations in various tech circles as being less inclusive. Yates points to the recently announced Georgia Prospers campaign as a concerted effort by the Atlanta business community to support a diverse workforce.
