Last week, ChooseATL arrived in force at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2017 in Austin, Texas, for the second year in a row. ChooseATL, the movement dedicated to attracting and retaining next gen talent, worked to elevate our region’s careers, community and culture within the tech, film and music industries.
Atlanta made a splash with activities throughout the festival that brought together top corporate leaders and entrepreneurs. From hosting the ChooseATL House to the largest SXSW job fair booth, the region’s penchant for collaboration and fostering connections was on full display.
The events officially kicked off on Saturday, March 11 in the Austin Convention Center with the SXSW Job Market where Atlanta corporations opened a 1,000 square-foot job fair booth. The Metro Atlanta Chamber, along with representatives from Delta Air Lines, First Data, Georgia Power, Paymetric and Global Resource Management connected with more than 2000 job-seekers. For two days, the booth showcased Atlanta’s regional job opportunities in fields as diverse as digital media, engineering and software development.
On Monday, March 13, ChooseATL took over the iconic Maggie May’s on Sixth Street, transforming it into the “ChooseATL House.” The House brought the Atlanta experience to Austin, drawing in more than 2200 guests. During a “Southern Brunch & Conversation” with artist and actor Ludacris and ChooseATL’s Kate Atwood, the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise star discussed the creative atmosphere in Atlanta that nurtured his rise to fame.
Later, entrepreneurs and global company leaders presented during the “Big Brands Driving Innovation” panel, featuring executives from Delta, Cox Enterprises, Roadie and The Home Depot. The first Entrepreneur Invitational took place immediately following the panel, connecting entrepreneurs and C-level executives to discuss collaborative opportunities. Other panels included “Going BIG with digitalundivided” and “The Business of Entertainment.”
Atlanta’s status as a hub for film was also celebrated with an interview between YouTuber Tripp Crosby of the comedy duo “Tripp and Tyler” and Frank Patterson, president of Pinewood Atlanta Studios. The ChooseATL House wrapped up a full day’s lineup as Culture Republic, the lifestyle and marketing company responsible for managing T.I., OutKast and Ludacris, ignited the city with a night party featuring Atlanta’s own Jermaine Dupri and Rich Homie Quan.
