Russell Stokes of GE Energy Connections and David Abney of UPS Named Metro Atlanta Chamber 2018 and 2019 Chairs

The Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) today announced updated plans for leadership in 2018 and 2019. Russell Stokes, president and chief executive officer, GE Energy Connections will chair the organization’s board in 2018 and David Abney, chairman and chief executive officer, UPS will chair the organization’s board in 2019.

The chair-elect changes follow AT&T’s recent announcement that Glenn Lurie, president and chief executive officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Operations will relocate from Atlanta to the company’s headquarters in Dallas. Lurie was previously MAC’s chair-elect for 2018.

“Russell and David represent what we call the ‘Atlanta Way’. They are strong corporate and philanthropic leaders with an unwavering commitment to expanding the reach of our vibrant and growing Metro Atlanta region.” said Jeffrey C. Sprecher, 2017 MAC chair, chairman and chief executive officer of Intercontinental Exchange and chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. “We are fortunate that they are leading organizations that are major contributors to our region’s economy. Their business acumen and perspective will be invaluable over the coming years as we continue to drive unprecedented growth that furthers metro Atlanta’s position as a top-tier global region.”

During his 12 years in Atlanta, Lurie was an active member of the business community and the Metro Atlanta Chamber. He launched MAC’s Mobility Taskforce, a four-year effort that shines a light on Atlanta’s vibrant mobility ecosystem and carrying the message around the world.

In addition to announcing shifts in its chair-elect position, MAC also shared the 2017 officers and chairs serving its various councils that span economic development, public policy, innovation and entrepreneurship, ATLeaders, sports, ChooseATL and more.
