IoT/Mobility Council Talks Innovation, Strategic Objectives

As the #3 city expected to make the most of emerging Smart City and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, Atlanta is a global leader in this space. The region’s leaders, success stories, assets and partners place us at the forefront of the industry and establish the region as an innovation economy. Metro Atlanta offers a world-class and collaborative ecosystem of big brands, digital media leaders, technology powerhouses, world-renowned universities and a dynamic startup community working to drive mobile innovation on a broad scale.

Co-Chaired by Mike Groesch, vice president of Smart Services at NCR, the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s (MAC) second-quarter IoT/Mobility Leadership Council discussed how NCR plays a part in global connectivity and how the company is presenting innovative solutions to problems that face ever-changing and fast-paced markets around the globe. NCR is focused on four major trends: mobile devices, big data, the cloud and IoT. These “mega trends” impact capital expenditure and private capital information, as well as research and development investments.

Erhan Cot, IT director of NCR, further explained the company’s desire to completely enhance the customer experience from start to finish, working in the areas of advanced analytics, cognitive artificial technology and digital marketplace. The keynote speakers closed their presentations by detailing NCR’s work to keep customers constantly engaged in an inclusive experience, making transactions easier than ever.

As the council meeting transitioned into updates from MAC featuring Michael Thiesen-Jones, manager of global business development; Cynthia Curry, director of IoT; and David Hartnett, chief economic development officer, there was a central theme around inclusivity and growth. This included updates on the Atlanta Metro Export Challenge, a dynamic grant program designed to engage and challenge metro Atlanta companies to think about their international expansion. Also mentioned was the signature initiative for IoT.ATL, which includes pilot programs on the Atlanta BeltLine to provide innovative and engaging solutions for equity and inclusion.

Metro Atlanta is a recognized leader in IoT/Mobility. As the industry continues to grow, MAC’s IoT/Mobility Leadership Council will continue to convene partners around the region to tell their story. The 2019 IoT/Mobility Leadership Council calendar will be released early Q1. If you have any questions on how your organization can engage with MAC, please reach out to Cynthia Curry.
