From the desk of Katie Kirkpatrick: Statement on Buckhead cityhood

The following statement from the Metro Atlanta Chamber can be attributed to Katie Kirkpatrick, President & CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

The decision by Lt. Gov. Duncan and Speaker Ralston to pause the Buckhead city legislation allows Mayor Dickens time to implement his public safety initiatives across Atlanta. These local efforts combined with state leaders’ work on the LESS crime act, mental health reform and the gang prosecution unit in the Attorney General’s office will result in safer communities. Georgia thrives when leaders in our capital city and at the state level work together.

The work will not stop here. Public safety remains a critical part of successful economic development. We will continue advocating for constructive solutions to address public safety and will remain vigilant in our support for one Atlanta, partnering with the Committee for a United Atlanta this session and beyond. Our state and community are stronger – and more secure -- when we come together, set aside our differences and collaboratively solve our challenges so we can fully seize the incredible economic development momentum we continue to experience.
