Metro Atlanta’s Region 3 workforce boards were recently awarded $400,000 from the High Demand Career Initiative Grant. This grant will support efforts across the region to develop employer-driven workforce partnerships in the Healthcare, IT, and Logistics sectors. The application was a joint effort by Region 3’s five local workforce boards, and the help of Atlanta CareerRise, Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC), Metro Atlanta Exchange for Workforce Solutions (MAX), and others.

In 2015, the MAC Public Policy team, along with partners Atlanta CareerRise, Georgia Budget & Policy Institute, Policy BEST, Business Leaders United and National Skills Coalition, began discussing the importance of sector support to fund demand-driven workforce efforts. A big thanks to WorkSource Georgia for recognizing the value of this type of program and for establishing the HDCI grant fund to make regional sector partnerships a reality across the state. With the state’s support of demand-driven regional partnerships, we will be able to make significant progress toward closing the skills gap in the Metro Atlanta region and across all of Georgia.
