Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce

Atlanta Public Schools Committee

The Metro Atlanta Chamber's Atlanta Public Schools Committee is focused on improving student achievement in Atlanta Public Schools (APS). Its primary objective is working with the Atlanta School Board and Superintendent so that it becomes a model of urban school governance.

The Metro Atlanta Chamber has long served as the door the business community enters to get involved in education. No other issue plays a greater role in determining the quality of our workforce and the prosperity of our region and state. That is why our members consistently rank education as the Chamber’s No. 1 job. It is why the Chamber devotes more staff and engages more volunteers on this subject than any other. And it is why the Chamber harnesses every tool in its arsenal to mobilize the business community in support of education.

The Chamber has a long track record of engaging the business community to support the superintendent’s reform efforts, linking business partners with schools, recruiting and supporting school board candidates through EduPAC, leading reform efforts in the General Assembly on school board governance, and keeping the public informed and engaged with such programs as the bus tour of SPLOST facilities and State of Schools event.

Oct 5, 2006, at the Carter Center, Atlanta GA.

The Metro Atlanta Chamber's Atlanta Public Schools Committee is chaired by Curley Dossman, President of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation. The Committee will continue to focus on helping to support the Atlanta Superintendent and the reform agenda to improve the quality of education in Atlanta. It will also continue to foster governance and collaboration between the Atlanta School Board and the superintendent, monitor legislative issues and lend support as appropriate, and work with Atlanta Public Schools to develop a Corporate Communications Advisory Council and implement a communications strategy for Atlanta Public Schools.
